Smith was an integral part of Leicester City’s promotion to the First Division in his first season scoring thirteen goals. He spent five seasons at Leicester City scoring eighty-four goals and making 217 appearances. Smith joined Arsenal in 1987 where he won all three major domestic trophies: two League Championships, the FA Cup, and the Football League Cup. Smith was Arsenal’s top scorer for four consecutive seasons and the top scorer in the First Division in the 1988-89 season with twenty-three goals.
