Stubbs began his career at Bolton, where he captained the side in two Wembley appearances (League Cup final and Play-off final) during the 1994/1995 season. He then enjoyed a successful spell at Celtic, before returning to the Premier League and captaining Everton, the club he is said to have dreamed of playing for. After retiring, Stubbs became a coach at Everton.
