Ormerod made most of his club appearances with Blackpool, followed by Southampton. At Blackpool he became a regular starter. Ormerod had a great 2001-02 season and other clubs began to look to buy Ormerod. The next season, Ormerod was bought by Southampton. He scored thirteen league goals in five years for the club.
