Windass is best known for his spells at Bradford City and his contribution to the promotion of Hull City to the Premier League in 2008. Windass went through Hull City’s youth team and eventually signed with the club. He scored sixty-four goals in 205 games and when he left, he brought a record transfer fee for the club. At Bradford City, Windass became the club’s third highest scorer of all time.
