Joan Capdevila is a former Spanish international, who played the majority of his career in his home country. His football started at Espanyol, but the attacking-minded fullback enjoyed spells at Athletico Madrid, Deportivo La Coruna and Villareal, before moving abroad to Benfica.
At Deportivo, he won the COpa Del Ray in 2001-2002, and at Villarreal, Capdevila twice qualified for the Champions League.
He made his international debut in 2002, and went on to make 60 appearances for his country. He played at two European Championships, and at the 2010 World Cup, where he was the only member of the squad not to play for Real or Barcelona. He retired having won both the Euros and World Cup, and having scored 4 goals for his country.
