Riedle began his career in his native Germany, enjoying success with Werder Bremen - where he won the Bundesliga and Super Cup in 1988 - and Borussia Dortmund - where he won the Bundesliga in 1995 and 1996 and the Champions League in 1997.
He then moved to Liverpool, where he played 60 times, before mvoing South to Fulham. Whilst at the London club, he won promotion to the Premier League.
The German international played 42 times for his country, winning the World Cup in 1990.
