Mellor began his career as a trainee at Liverpool, before making a name for himself at Preston North End. The striker played over 130 times for the Lancashire club, scoring 38 goals. Mellor enjoyed a short spell with Sheffield Wednesday before retirement, and now commentates for Sky Sports as part of their Soccer Saturday programme.
