Howey made most of his appearances for Newcastle United and Manchester City. Howey was an important part of Newcastle’s First Division Championship winning side in 1992-93. Once promoted to the Premier League, Howey continued to be the first-choice central defender. Newcastle were Premier League runner-up twice in 1995-96 and 1996-97.
